A major agricultural transformation has taken root in Northern Ghana with the official launch of the 2025 Farmer School Project, a pioneering initiative led by Agrisolve. and its strategic partners to restore soil health, improve yields, and rebuild farmer confidence.

The launch marks the beginning of a season-long campaign targeting over 10,000 smallholder farmers across the Northern and Upper West regions, addressing long-standing challenges such as soil acidity, poor yields, and low input adoption. The Farmer School Project is a collaborative effort involving TerraCalco Ghana., Sesi Technologies, Sonagro-KingSeeds, and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA).

At the heart of the project are 10 demonstration farms and over 125 acres of farmer-managed experimental plots, designed to serve as real-time classrooms for practical, evidence-based training. These sites showcase techniques such as agricultural lime application, optimized seed and fertilizer use, and AI-powered soil diagnostics to correct soil pH and unlock nutrient potential.

The project’s structure includes four major Farmer Field Days, focused on key phases of crop production:

  • Lime Application & Soil Sampling
  • Seed Planting & Input Bundling
  • Mid-Season Performance Checks & Soil pH Analysis
  • Harvest Reflection & Results Evaluation

These hands-on sessions are delivered with support from MoFA Extension Officers, National Service personnel, and community-based Greenconnect Hubs established by Agrisolve.

Raymond Enye, Project Manager at Agrisolve, emphasized the project’s strategic vision:

“Fertilizer alone is no longer enough. Without correcting the soil’s pH, farmers lose both yield and money. This project is about restoring soil balance and equipping farmers to make smart, profitable decisions.”

“This is not just a project — it’s a national movement. By combining MoFA’s reach, private-sector innovation, and farmer engagement, we’re setting a new standard for agricultural transformation.”

Partners Powering the Project

  • TerraCalco Ghana, a subsidiary of Carmeuse, is leading lime application efforts and training field agents on proper usage protocols.
General Manager Kenneth Danso noted: “Farmers need to see results on their own land. Our approach is rooted in proof, education, and local trust.”
  • Sesi Technologies is introducing its FarmSense AI-powered soil analysis system, offering real-time diagnostics and customized nutrient recommendations.
Program Lead Emmanuel Owusu stated: “For the first time, farmers are learning the actual health of their soils — and using that knowledge to improve productivity.”
  • Sonagro-KingSeeds is supplying improved seed varieties and fertilizers tailored for acidic soils, along with technical demonstrations to ensure input efficiency.

The 2025 season will serve as a testing ground for long-term impact. Data from field trials, farmer feedback, and crop yields will be used to produce a joint technical report and explore scaling opportunities across Ghana.

Raymond Enye added:

“This year lays the foundation for systemic change. With continued partnerships, we can scale this model nationwide and ensure every Ghanaian farmer has access to healthy soil and a profitable future.”
