In the wake of the recent attack on the drive show host of Dagbon FM, Abubakari Sadiq Gariba by a former Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region, media personality Naa Kwarley has warned of the possibility of more attacks on journalists and presenters if urgent action is not taken before elections 2024.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, saw the former NDC Communications Officer storming the premises of Dagbon FM and physically assaulting the presenter while on air.
In response to the incident, Naa Kwarley, a popular media personality, has expressed her concerns over the safety of journalists and presenters in the country. She noted that attacks on journalists and presenters have become increasingly common in recent times, with many of these incidents going unreported.
“Journalists and presenters play a crucial role in society, and it is unacceptable that they are being attacked and intimidated for simply doing their jobs,” she said.
Naa Kwarley called on the government, Media house owners and relevant authorities to take urgent action to address the issue and ensure the safety of journalists and presenters in the country. She urged the government to put in place measures to prevent such attacks from happening in the future, and to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
“The government must take a firm stand against attacks on journalists and presenters, and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice,” she said.
Naa Kwarley also called on media houses to prioritize the safety and security of their staff, and to take measures to protect them from any potential threats.
“Media houses must invest in the safety and security of their staff, and ensure that they are equipped with the necessary tools and resources to protect themselves,” she said.
