Alhaji Ayaana, widely known for his symbolic and politically-inspired long-distance walks, has once again set the continent talking. He is currently on his way from Accra, Ghana to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, in a bold show of support for the country’s military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
The walk, which commenced ahead of his earlier-announced date of 10th October, is Ayaana’s personal way of saluting what he describes as Captain Traoré’s “Pan-African transformational leadership.” According to him, the young leader represents the spirit of African independence and resistance against neo-colonial dominance. “This journey is more than just a walk; it is my contribution to the Pan-African cause and my way of standing with Burkina Faso in these defining times,” Ayaana declared before setting off.
Earlier this year, in January, Alhaji Ayaana captured national attention when he walked from Kumasi to Accra in celebration of President John Dramani Mahama’s return to office after his decisive victory in the December 2024 general elections. That symbolic act, which earned him both praise and criticism, cemented his reputation as a man who uses endurance and movement to make powerful political statements.
Now on the road to Ouagadougou, Ayaana’s journey is expected to not only test his strength and resilience but also spark renewed debates on Pan-African unity, leadership, and activism. Regardless of differing opinions, one fact remains clear: Alhaji Ayaana’s walks continue to transcend borders, stirring conversations that go beyond the miles he covers.
