North East’s fast-rising rap talent, Omario CK, is currently the name on everyone’s lips after an impressive showing at the just-ended 6th edition of the North East Music Awards (NEMA) held on Saturday, 24th May, in Walewale. The rapper walked away with three of the most coveted titles—Artist of the Year, Most Popular Song, and Collaboration of the Year—cementing his place as one of the region’s most dominant forces in music today.

In the wake of his wins, Omario took to social media to heap praises on the NEMA scheme. In one post, he described it as “the most authentic, distinctive, and relevant awards scheme… arguably the only one taken seriously across the entire North East Region.” In another, he boldly stated that NEMA is “the only awards scheme in Ghana judged purely on merit and not voting with short codes.” These wins have since gone viral, sparking conversations across major media platforms like Zaa TV Ghana, Sagani TV, and HYPE MEDIA GH, where Omario has been a regular subject of discussion for over a week now.

However, not everyone is buying into his glowing endorsement. Some critics and fans have pointed out a sharp contrast between his recent statements and his past sentiments. Notably, just last year, Omario reportedly dismissed award schemes without public voting as “charity and not credible”—a statement many took as a jab at NEMA, especially since he wasn’t nominated at the time.
While some see his current praise as genuine growth and appreciation after being recognized for his hard work, others argue it’s simply a case of “sweet after success.”
