Luchi-Mo has weighed in on the ongoing controversy between Iddrisu Mohammed Rafik, the owner of the Northern Music Awards, and the organizers of the yet-to-be-held Ghana Northern Music Awards. In a detailed reaction to Rafik’s post, Luchi-Mo referenced the Registrar General’s Department’s Name Similarity Rule, siding with Rafik’s claim of ownership.
According to Luchi-Mo, the rule clearly states that “a name shall not be registered if it is identical to or so nearly resembles that of a business or company already registered as to be misleading or confusing.” He emphasized that the addition of the word “Ghana” does not make the new award scheme distinct enough if the core name and business purpose remain the same.
“This means no one else can register an identical or confusingly similar name in the same or related business category, especially if it’s likely to mislead the public or cause confusion,” Luchi-Mo wrote, adding that the Ghana Northern Music Awards could face legal consequences if it proceeds under its current name. His statement has further fueled the heated debate surrounding intellectual property and brand identity within the Northern entertainment industry.
