Naama Salifu, a Ghanaian diplomat and daughter of the late Paramount Chief of Zabzugu, Yelzoli-lan Salifu, is positioning herself to make history as the first woman to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Tamale Central constituency.

Her ambition comes at a time when the NDC’s national leadership is reportedly considering settling on a candidate through consensus for the upcoming by-election, rather than allowing an open contest. However, sources close to the Yelizoli Princess have indicated that she is fully prepared to join the race should the party opt for a competitive process.

Born and raised in Tamale, Ms. Salifu has built her career in diplomacy, holding several roles in Ghana’s foreign missions. She most recently served as Assistant Consular at the Ghana Mission in Niamey, Niger. Her entry into the race would mark a significant moment in the political history of Tamale Central, a constituency that has never had a female candidate represent the NDC in parliamentary elections.
