Renowned Ghanaian traditional musician Sherifatu Gunu is set to take another bold step in promoting African heritage with the launch of the Global Fugu Festival Launch, an initiative aimed at celebrating and projecting the beauty of African tradition, culture, and fashion to the world.

The festival launch is being organized by Gunu Musical Entertainment in collaboration with Black Star Afro Diaspora Development Network. The two-day event is scheduled to take place from Friday, April 24 to Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the forecourt of the Parliament House in Accra.

Sherifatu Gunu has long been recognized as one of Ghana’s strongest advocates for traditional music and northern cultural identity. Through her music and cultural initiatives, she has consistently promoted Fugu, a traditional smock widely associated with Northern Ghana, turning it into a global cultural symbol.

The Global Fugu Festival is envisioned as a platform that will unite fashion, music, and cultural expression while connecting Africans on the continent with those in the diaspora. The event will highlight the significance of African traditional attire, indigenous music, and the deep cultural values embedded within them.

Beyond entertainment, the festival aims to inspire pride in African identity, encourage cultural exchange, and create economic opportunities for designers, artisans, musicians, and other creatives within the cultural industry.

Over the two days, patrons can expect vibrant performances, cultural showcases, and a strong display of African fashion—particularly the iconic Fugu—while celebrating the diversity and richness of Ghanaian heritage.

For Sherifatu Gunu, the initiative represents more than a festival; it is a mission to ensure that African traditions remain visible, respected, and celebrated on the global stage. Through the Global Fugu Festival, she continues to champion the cause of preserving culture while introducing it to new audiences across the world.
