Ghanaian musician, Jupitar has claimed in a recent interview on D-Black’s Uncut Show that, artists who sings in different languages and tribes apart from twi and pigin are unfavoured by DJ’s and presenters on the airwaves, most especially in Accra.
According to the award winning dancehall star, Radio stations in Ghana play Twi and Pigin songs, forgetting the fact that they are good and talented singers as well as rappers who sings and makes good music in other languages.
“Most of our radio stations in our media space have chosen one particular language that they will promote. There is a very good rapper in the north who actually raps in Dagati or Sissala. But he can’t fluently speak Twi or pidgin…if you take that music to Accra. It won’t get up to two airplays,” he said.
Speaking further, Jupitar argued that 2018 most popular song winner at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Fancy Gadam achieved the favour of getting airplay with his TOTAL CHEAT song because he sang in pigin.
Jupitar calls out media houses and DJ’s to equally play and promote good and quality music in other languages, desisting from limiting it to only a language or two.
