The ‘Tertiary Young Women Award (TYWA), an initiative targeted at promoting entrepreneurship and leadership among young women who are in tertiary institutions had its maiden edition climaxed yesterday 8th June, 2024 at the Tamale’s Regional Library.
Involving a lot of promising students from various Tertiary institutions across the Northern Region, below were winners of various categories of the maiden edition,
- Fashion and Design Business of the Year: Ibrahim Mariam
- Gender Advocate of the Year: Saudatu Zakaria
- Art Business of the Year: Abdulai Zeinab
- Cosmetology Business of the Year: Abubakari Hidaa-ya Tungteiya
- Beverage Business of the Year: Abdulai Mabburukatu
- Outstanding Business Woman of the Year: Abdulai Mabburukatu
- Outstanding Woman of the Year: Aheto Esenam Josephine
- Women’s Commissioner of the Year: Adam Fatimatu Zaara.
In a press address after the successful climaxed, the CEO of the event, Alhassan Paparazy sqid the scheme is not only to encourage, but to help reduce the high rate of joblessness in the country, students who are studying whiles also involving themselves in businesses help them take care of their basic needs without bothering others and that he believe that those that will be successful enough in Entrepreneurship space will also create jobs for their peers thereby contributing to Ghana’s economy.
”Students who engaged in students politics gains experience that can support them to bring policies, intervention and initiatives in the future that can contribute to the socioeconomic development of Ghana and shaping good leaders for tomorrow Ghana, that’s why we came out with this initiative to have more women in Entrepreneurship and leadership” he said.
Meanwhile, some winners were awarded cooking cylinders, Gas Cooker etc.
