In a candid interview on HYPE TV, prominent artist Hooya expressed his deep disappointment and frustration over the absence of fellow musicians Fancy Gadam and Maccasio from his recent show at the Bukum Arena. Hooya, known for his unwavering support and significant influence in the Accra music scene, did not hold back in sharing his feelings about the situation.
Hooya emphasized his lifelong dedication to supporting events and concerts, particularly those held at the Bukum Arena. “For all my life, I have never missed any event or concert at the stadium,” he stated. This unwavering commitment has not gone unnoticed, as he is often the first artist approached whenever there is a concert in Accra. “I’m the biggest artist in Accra with a large number of fans, friends, and influence who attend these concerts because of me,” he proudly noted.
Personal Sacrifices for the Greater Good
Despite his significant contributions, Hooya revealed that he has never received any payment from fellow artists for his participation. “I have never been paid even GH₵1 by any of these artists. I fuel my own vehicle, buy tickets for some of them, and purchase my costume—all in the name of supporting my fellow artists and Dagbon,” he explained. This level of dedication highlights Hooya’s selfless approach to promoting unity and collaboration within the music community.
Disappointing Excuses
Hooya’s team was willing to pay Fancy Gadam and Maccasio to be part of the show, but both artists declined, citing upcoming concerts at the same venue as the reason. They believed that performing at the same venue a month or two before their own concerts would negatively impact their attendance. Hooya, however, disagreed with this reasoning. “I believe they don’t understand their own influence. I can confidently say that Fancy Gadam and Maccasio could host concerts at the Arena for two consecutive months, and fans would still call for more,” he asserted.
A Call for Greater Belief in Their Influence
Hooya’s disappointment stems from his belief that both Fancy Gadam and Maccasio underestimate their own power and influence. “Their excuses were not sufficient, though I hold nothing against them,” he concluded. His remarks serve as a call for these artists to recognize and embrace their potential to draw crowds and create memorable experiences, regardless of the timing of their performances.
