Maccasio, a prominent figure in Northern Ghana’s music scene, expressed his disappointment with the level of support he has received from the Northern media during his appearance on Zaa TV’s ‘Xposure’ show with Kawastone on Saturday. The rapper candidly stated that despite having his songs played and being granted interviews, he feels that the media’s support has been minimal. He argued that true support for an artist goes beyond just airplay and interviews, emphasizing that these actions often benefit both the artist and the media due to the increased viewership they bring.
According to Maccasio, true support involves media personalities actively championing artists on the national stage, something he feels is sorely lacking. He pointed out that in other parts of the country, industry players are instrumental in deciding which artists rise to prominence. However, in the North, Maccasio observed that many industry figures are more focused on building their presence on Facebook rather than engaging with the national industry on platforms like X (formerly Twitter). He expressed frustration that the media’s efforts remain confined to the region, failing to elevate Northern artists to a broader, national audience.
Maccasio made it clear that until Northern media personalities start representing artists on a national level, simply giving them airplay does not equate to real support. He acknowledged that while some presenters are making an effort, it falls short of what is needed to truly push Northern artists into the national spotlight. For Maccasio, the lack of genuine media advocacy is a major hurdle in achieving greater recognition and success beyond the Northern region.
