Ghana have named a largely experimental squad for their international friendly against Mexico national football team on Friday, May 22, 2026, with head coach Carlos Queiroz focusing on assessing players and giving opportunities to those in form.
The Ghana national football team squad includes a mix of locally based players and those playing abroad, with several new faces and a few returning names.
One of the notable inclusions is Medeama midfielder Salim Adams, who has been rewarded for his performances this season. The 23-year-old has scored 11 goals in the Ghana Premier League and is among a small group of home-based players in the squad, alongside Solomon Agbasi, Ebenezer Abban, Razak Simpson, Ebenezer Adade and Gidios Aseako.
In goal, Paul Reverson earns a call-up after his development at Jong Ajax. The 20-year-old was part of Ghana’s U20 AFCON squad last year and has served as a backup option for Ajax’s first team this season.
Majeed Ashimeru also returns to the squad after gaining more playing time since his loan move to RAAL in January. His last appearance for Ghana came in the Unity Cup in 2025.
Augustine Boakye receives his first senior call-up following a strong season with Saint-Étienne, where he has recorded five goals and nine assists in Ligue 2.
In attack, Joseph Opoku has been included after an impressive campaign with Zulte Waregem. He has 15 goal involvements this season (nine goals and six assists), the highest in his team, and was also part of the U20 AFCON squad last year.
Felix Afena-Gyan returns to the Black Stars for the first time since 2025. He contributed five goals and six assists as Amedspor secured promotion to the Turkish Super Lig.
Francis Amuzu is also in the squad and could make his debut for Ghana. The winger, who previously represented Belgium at youth level, has seven goals and five assists for Gremio this season.
Prince Amoako Junior earns a place after his performances with FC Nordsjaelland, where he has eight goals and five assists across all competitions. Ibrahim Osman returns to the squad for the first time since September 2025, following his recent spell at Birmingham City.
Dan Agyei keeps his place in the team despite not featuring during the March international break. He has scored five goals for Kocaelispor this season.
Overall, the squad reflects an opportunity for Queiroz and his technical team to assess different options, test combinations and build depth ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
