Key figures within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are reportedly orchestrating efforts to disrupt the operations of Electrochem Ghana Limited (EGL), a subsidiary of the McDan Group engaged in salt mining at the Ada Songor Lagoon.
These alleged actions come just a month after the NDC secured victory in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections, ushering in a second term for President John Mahama.

Reliable information confirms that a secret meeting was held at the Fiesta Royal Hotel in Accra on December 15 to deliberate on strategies aimed at undermining EGL.
Prominent NDC members allegedly present at the meeting included Hon. Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Dr. Tony Aubin, and Hon. Alex Kyeremeh, all of whom played critical roles in John Mahama’s re-election campaign.

An anonymous source shared details of the meeting with journalists, stating, “It has been alleged that some stalwarts of the incoming administration of the NDC held a secret meeting with individuals who should know better that McDan Electrochem Salt Mining has legally acquired the Songor Lagoon for salt mining in Ghana.
“The source further suggested that coordinated efforts to undermine EGL’s operations were being planned, raising concerns about potential political interference in lawful business activities.

Prior to the 2024 elections, EGL frequently made headlines over allegations of brutalities in the Ada area. These alleged incidents, widely covered by certain media outlets and the Ada Songor Lagoon Association, were seen as attempts to damage the company’s reputation.
According to sources, the Ada Songor Lagoon Association, a group actively opposing EGL, is reportedly funded and supported by key NDC members with the aim of disrupting McDan Group’s salt mining operations in Ada.
An insider also disclosed that NDC parliamentary candidates for the Ada East and Ada West constituencies, Hon. Doeyo Cudjo and Daniel Bessy, had assured their supporters within the Ada Songor Lagoon Concession area that EGL would be expelled if the NDC returned to power.
Attacks on EGL after NDC Victory This portal can also confirm the circulation of a viral video showing some youth in Ada attacking workers of Electrochem Ghana Limited (EGL) following the change of government.
The video, which has sparked widespread condemnation, captures chaotic scenes where workers are chased out of the company premises amid threats and violence.
In another intercepted video, an elderly man is seen being severely beaten by some youth, allegedly because of his association with EGL.
