The Member of Parliament for the Sagnarigu Constituency, Hon. Attah Issah, has reaffirmed his commitment to the growth of the movie industry in Northern Ghana, calling for the establishment of a Film Village to support local filmmakers.
Speaking at the premiere of the movie Kurbaŋ Yili, Hon. Attah Issah revealed that he had officially appealed to the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture to assist in building a Film Village for the northern film industry. According to him, the Minister welcomed the idea and requested that a formal proposal be submitted for consideration. He disclosed that he had already communicated this request to Alhaji Ahmed Adam.
While Hon. Attah Issah was addressing the audience, Afa Saani Minister interjected, assuring the gathering that the proposal could be ready “tonight” if required. In response, the Sagnarigu MP urged stakeholders in the industry to meet him in Accra so they could jointly present the proposal to the Minister of Tourism, a move he believes will fast-track the process.
Hon. Attah Issah emphasized that his support for the movie industry is driven by his deep love for films and creative arts, noting that the sector has the potential to create jobs and project northern culture onto the national and international stage.
As a show of goodwill and encouragement, the MP made a cash donation of GH¢5,000 to Labzoroo, the producer of Kurbaŋ Yili. He further assured actors and filmmakers that his office remains open to them, urging industry players to freely reach out to him whenever they are in need of support.
The gesture and commitment were met with applause from patrons at the premiere, signaling renewed hope for the future of the northern film industry.
